The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse.

Every so often a book comes into our lives at the most perfect of moments. It helps us, comforts us, it even heals us so we can continue living day after day. It’s the joy that comes from being a reader and what ultimately keeps us reading.

For the most part, Sarah and I don’t read the same books. We have different tastes, different fictional genres and age ranges that we each explore. BUT, there are times the same books cross our paths and they have a profound impact on both of us, the last book being The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy.

I first listened to it as an audiobook via BBC Sounds very early on this year, Sarah recently read it in its physical format and both of us were instantly captured by the innocence, honesty and heart of this book. A lot of the lines and quotes are similar to motivational sayings we’ve seen before through social media, but said through such simple, innocent characters, they hit differently. In fact, there is a sense of what I can only describe as a Winnie-the-Pooh wisdom about them.

They’re warm, comforting, hopeful…everything we’ve needed to get through the past few months when we thought the anxiety, sadness and negative thoughts affecting us were winning.

There’s not been a more wonderful read than this book this year so far, and we highly recommend it.

A couple of our favourite pages:

Hello, I’m Emma aka pageturner92, and welcome to my little corner of the online book world. When I don’t have my head in a book, I’m either working on an endless pile of crochet or knitting projects, playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, listening to Disney music, or watching my favourite shows on repeat.
